REI Trailmade Collection

Traditional technical hike clothing usually comes in muted earth tones and is fairly unassuming. The Trailmade collection was designed to imbue personality and style into a technical hike apparel collection, and allow a younger generation of hikers to more easily express themselves.

The concept of this photoshoot rests on confidence and individuality in the outdoors. A group of friends find their way deep into the forest to spend the afternoon hanging out in the serene surrounds of nature.

These images were photographed entirely on film for the Spring launch of the REI Co-op Trailmade collection in new prints and colorways.

Runner Portraits

(1st set of portraits) LA-based run club Blacklist LA is passionate about making running inclusive and centers community at the heart of their organization. We met up with them to follow them on a club run and take portraits of their key leaders. It was important that we conveyed both their grit and that of the city, so we used a warehouse in LA as the backdrop, exposing the environment beyond the sweep.

These portraits were a subset of the ‘23 Winter/Spring Run Campaign for REI. We produced a content piece about the run club and needed photography that was able to communicate the soul of the organization.

(2nd set of portraits) Alan and Devon were about to embark on running the entirety of the Wonderland trail in Mt. Rainier. Their run was being filmed and written about, so we took portraits of them to accompany those pieces. Both Alan and Devon are not sponsored athletes and in these images the goal was to hero the “everyday runner”; the runner whose feats go largely unnoticed by the public but are not any less triumphant than those who get medals or sponsorships.

Portraits with Cupcakes

Personal Project

I was inspired to create a set of portraits that celebrate men and cupcakes for a school project. The goal was to make these portraits heroic, romantic, and also satirical. They were to be serious and funny at the same time. They were to be as dramatic as dapper men can get, yet with a wink hidden somewhere in the dark background. And of course the lighting had to be perfect.
